An afternoon of gloriously British music, wit and comedy in Petersfield
Entertainment Events and New Arts invite you to The Festival Hall, Petersfield, for a wonderfully nostalgic afternoon celebrating two of Britain’s best-loved comedy partnerships: Flanders & Swann and Hinge & Bracket.
Performed by the same hugely talented duo, this special matinee brings together two very different—but equally distinctive—styles of classic British entertainment in one delightfully entertaining show.
Expect clever songs, beautifully observed comedy, musical mischief and plenty of affectionate nostalgia as our performers first recreate the unmistakable world of Flanders & Swann before transforming into the wonderfully genteel Dr Evadne Hinge and Dame Hilda Bracket.
The wit and musical brilliance of Flanders & Swann
Michael Flanders and Donald Swann became famous for their ingenious comic songs, sharp observations and effortless piano-led performances.
Their wonderfully witty material found humour in everything from everyday frustrations and social conventions to animals, transport and the peculiarities of British life. Decades later, their songs remain remarkably funny, wonderfully clever and immediately recognisable.
This affectionate tribute captures the warmth, intelligence and playful humour that made Flanders & Swann such an enduring part of British entertainment.
The unmistakable charm of Hinge & Bracket
Following the interval, our performers undergo a rather dramatic transformation as Dr Evadne Hinge and Dame Hilda Bracket take to the stage.
Known collectively as Hinge & Bracket, these gloriously theatrical ladies delighted audiences with their refined musical performances, wonderfully dry observations and hilariously genteel conversations.
Expect elegant costumes, beautiful music and delightfully mischievous comedy as the celebrated residents of the fictional village of Stackton Tressel are lovingly brought back to life.
